In October, when it gets a bit too cold for movies, we set up a haunted house and pumpkin patch. The lawn space opens early for people to spread out their picnic blankets, mingle with their friends and neighbors, and grab a bite to eat. Before show time - we grill out and BBQ for a few hours while we wait for dusk. People are e …

I'm intend for this group to feel less formally organized by a leader/organizer. Remember when you were seven years old and you went down to the field on Saturday and people were just there and you had no difficulty finding someone to play catch with? Remember how therapeutic it felt? My sense is that there are quite a few people who like to throw a ball back and forth and, gee, wouldn't it be fun to know you can go somewhere during a particular timeframe and there'll be people who want to …

Hi all, I just moved from Denver, CO and have been thinking of ways to meet new people here in Chicago. I live in Edgewater and am amazed by all the open space I see along the Lakefront trail. I have a lot of experience leading group exercise and love the camaraderie and friendships that can be built from making it through a goo …

We're making reading a social activity. In this group, we'll gather for 'independent reading' time (my favorite part of elementary school!), outdoors when possible. The idea is very simple. Meet up, read together for a while and then follow up with discussion, reading suggestions and general mingling. We'll also have special 'literature-focused' events on occasion in which we hike, bike picnic, BBQ, etc., adjusting activities in the colder months of course. We'll do an optional book-club-type re …
